A new support system in North Dakota is using technology to help people kick the habit of using tobacco.
NDQuits provides support over the phone, online or even on your mobile device.
By setting a quit date, this free service will send reminders and tips on how smokers can steer clear from tobacco.
The program keeps up to date with modern technology and the director says that sending support using text messages has been successful.
"The text message program we have been getting some really good feedback on, it's personalized to the individual so if they are enrolled in the program it sends them reminders about their upcoming appointments. It is centered around their quit date so it will provide them with motivational texts."
says Krista Fremming, Tobacco Program Director at the North Dakota Department of Health
They are also developing a mobile app for NDQuits that will be available later this year.
