Business Beat 3-20-14

Posted: Updated:

Coffee lovers, take note -- a chance to get two birds with one stone is coming to the main MarketPlace Foods location on South Broadway. Bremer Bank's location here was closed a few weeks ago...and now renovation work will change it into a Caribou Coffee location. Work is slated to being here soon, bringing a new look to Marketplace's home base in the Magic City.

A fight to bring another Wal-Mart to the Magic City was lost by the company last year...now, another option is being efforted...but not a Wal-Mart, rather a Sam's Club. Details are very sketchy as of today, but Wal-Mart Stores, Inc -- the parent company of Sam's Club, has expressed interest in the Magic City -- but in a location where infrastructure isn't yet up to the level it needs to be. Stay tuned for more details on that possibility.

On Broadway, the site of the old Spicy Pickle that closed down late last year will soon become a chain restaurant known as Dickey's Barbecue Pit. You'll find locations in the Red River Valley as well...Fargo and Grand Forks. This location is slated to be open for business by mid to late April...and they are hiring now. Everything at Dickey's...smoked in house, so watch for that opening in just a few weeks.

With Business Beat, I'm Perry Olson.
