Grand Forks Woman Charged with 13 Counts of Child Abuse

Posted: Updated:

A Grand Forks woman is charged with 13 counts of child abuse and neglect for allegedly taping a 4-year-old boy's eyes shut to force him to sleep and taping them open during the day so he would stay awake.

Jacqueline Peltier is charged with abusing her grandchildren, who are between the ages of 4 and 9.

Court documents show that Peltier forced the children to eat spoonfuls of hot sauce.

She's also accused of stitching up a cut on a 5-year-old's head.

Peltier's daughter, 28-year-old Jenelle Gourd, and another woman, 22-year-old Alyssa Demarrias, are also charged in the case.

Authorities say they failed to stop the abuse and went as far as videotaping the acts.

Gourd is charged with 4 counts of Child neglect or abuse.

Demarrias is charged with 7.

Preliminary hearings are scheduled next month.

Social Services has taken custody of the children.
