Bismarck in Top 5 Fastest Growing Metro Areas

Posted: Updated:

From Ben Smith/KX News:

North Dakota is the fastest growing state in the country.

That's according to new census bureau data released today.

According to Economist Andrew Hiat, North Dakota is growing 4 times faster than the national average.

Much of this because of an increase in the mining, and oil and natural gas industries.

The growth is wide-spread throughout the state, including the state capital.

Bismarck is the fifth fastest growing metropolitan area in the country.

The metro area gained more than 35-hundred new residents in the last year.

The census bureau considers a metropolitan area as one that has a population of 50,000 or more.

North Dakota also has some of the fastest growing counties in the state such as Stark and Williams county.

Hiat says the Bureau's next focus will be how this growth affects areas like transportation and healthcare.
