SBHE Approves Integration of Sanford College of Nursing and NDSU

The State Board of Higher Education approves combining Sanford College of Nursing with NDSU.

The Higher Learning Commission requires that all colleges be separately organized in order to

keep their accreditation.

Sanford College of Nursing will be a part of the NDSU Department of Nursing and will be under the name NDSU Nursing at Sanford.

"We're going to be able to do more and better things with the development of not just four year Bachelor of Nursing degrees but extending that into master and doctoral levels, telepharmacy, a variety of mechanisms that are going to I think be a critical part to solving healthcare in the Western part of North Dakota," says Dean Bresciani, NDSU President.

Bresciani says the nursing students are enthusiastic about the change and appreciate the value of an NDSU degree.

He says since NDSU is nationally recognized, it'll be easy for students to transfer credits.

"I think that having NDSU on your transcript is going to look really good," says Kristi Dull, First semester Junior, Sanford College of Nursing.

"NDSU is probably a little bit more widely known. So I think it'll probably help maybe with job opportunities," says Mike Winegar, First semester Junior, Sanford College of Nursing.

The change is scheduled to happen on June 30th of this year.

The college will be operated at its current location in Bismarck but will be owned and managed solely by NDSU.
