MHS Girls Tennis Team Prepares for Season

Posted: Updated:

This year's Minot High girls tennis team will be a mixture of returning talent along with a number of new faces. 37 players are out for this year's team that finished 2nd at the region last year and 4th at state. The team returns 4 of its top 7 players and will be led by senior Ban Dodin who is playing her 3rd straight year at number one singles.

Also returning is 8th grader Jenna Coggins who qualified for state in doubles as a 7th grader last year. The team is hoping for some of its younger players can fill in the holes left by graduation.

Scott Delorme, MHS Girls Tennis Coach:We're pretty excited with Ban and Jenna at the top of our lineup. Those are two very solid tennis players who have played a lot of competitive tennis and we're going to talk to them right away today and tell them that they need to be leaders and take charge and put some time in and put some effort into practice and kind of show how things need to be done and hopefully have a good year for us. We've had girls put a lot of time in we do a Sunday night tennis thing where we see most of our girls, Jenna Coggins lives up here at the Indoor basically and we've seen some time, they've put the effort in, they've played some matches outside of the season and hopefully it will show.

Ban Dodin, Senior:I think I feel good about it I mean a lot of other teams lost players as well so we're not the only team to lose a senior so I think it's pretty evened out with other teams losing players.

Jenna Coggins, 8th Grader:I'm really excited I mean we only lost about 2 of our varsity players and I think it will be really fun playing with everybody again and I'm excited.

As far as the west region, the Majettes expect to be in a 3 way battle again with St. Mary's and Century.

Delorme:I think Century and St. Mary's will be the top two. St. Mary's top 3 players are finally seniors that have been playing since 7th grade, very, very solid players but Century's right behind them and then I think on the right day we can play with those teams and I think we can be right after them.

The Majettes Round Robin tournament scheduled for April 12th has been moved to April 14th in Bismarck.
