Although the numbers are down just a bit, this year's Des Lacs-Burlington Lady Lakers fastpitch team is looking to be an improved squad over last year.
19 players are out for this year's team with 5 of those players being starters. Although the team only has 3 upper classmen, the team feels it is starting its 4th season with one of its more experienced teams.
Jason Brooking, Lady Lakers Fastpitch Coach:This is one of our best combinations overall because we have more players coming in that they just naturally can play, we're not teaching them how to throw the ball and I would say that's probably our biggest asset. So they're coming in with just ability that teams before didn't have. But our pitching's improved, hitting's obviously improved because of that and fieldings come a long way. From the circle we're going to have Katrina Billadew throwing this year, she's going to be our number one, put in a lot of time in the off season to get ready for this year and then at 3rd base we're going to have Kyla Grandy, she had a pretty hot bat last year and at first base we've got returning Emily Albertson and she's just sucking everything in, she's catching everything, looking really good there at first.
Kyla Grandy, Sophomore:Just watching our batting techniques this year is already an improvement, line drives really nice so we've improved a lot from last year.
Emily Albertson, Sophomore:I think we're going to be a good team we have a little bit like different players than last year but I think we'll be good.
The Lady Lakers are scheduled to open their season on Friday at Stanley.
