With opening day less than a week away for Class B baseball, the Lewis and Clark-Parshall Wildcats are gearing to start the season with a meaningful region 7 matchup.
The Wildcats open the year on Monday in Watford City.
Of the 34 kids out for the team 6 starters return to the lineup, but their ACE Austin Lee will be out for at least 6 weeks after shoulder surgery.
Head Coach Fred Nelson thinks they'll need to take advantage of their speed to help over come the shallow rotation and lean on much younger players this spring and try to make a run at a region 7 title.
Fred Nelson/Head Coach "We're going to be a young team, but it's going to be kind of a funny combination of young and a little bit of experience at the same time. Last year I started an 8th grader and he's one of the guys that I'm looking to step up this year. Like I said, a funny combination of youth and experience."
Alex Nelson/ Freshman Shortstop-Pitcher "We're going to use our quickness to cover the errors we have on the defensive side, which helps in baserunner as well."
Jordan Nelson/ Junior Catcher - "We should be able to run the bases really well. Our outfield is young but very fast."
The Wildcats get to test that speed this coming Monday, they travel to Watford City for a double header.
