Murder Suspect in Court

Posted: Updated:

The man accused of kicking and beating a Minot woman to death was in court today.

Darin Lee Parker was due to have his preliminary hearing and arraignment, but the judge in the case granted a postponement.

Parker is accused of killing his girlfriend Karrie Williams in late February.

In court today, Parker's attorney Eric Baumann asked District Judge Doug Mattson to delay the preliminary hearing because some evidence had not been given to the defense in the discovery process.

Prosecutors argued that the new evidence - an audio recording made during Parker's arrest - was not needed in the hearing designed to show probable cause.

But Judge Mattson agreed to a continuance so the defense can receive the material.

(Doug Mattson, NW District Judge) "I don't want the continuance to be long. Is there any other discovery that's going to be handed over to Mr. Baumann?"

(Nikos Berkowitz, State's Attorney) "Not that I can see your honor and this is just minimal material to be frank with you. I will guarantee that as soon as the transcribed statements are prepared they will be produced but he will have the recordings before then."

Judge Mattson continued the preliminary hearing until April 24th.
