Bismarck Police Cracking Down on Texting and Driving

Posted: Updated:

April is National Distracted Driving Awareness month and Bismarck Police are cracking down on texting while driving.

This Tuesday and Saturday police will be out watching for people who text and drive.

They will have multiple crews with unmarked cars and police officers patrolling throughout Bismarck.

They want to let the community know that texting while driving is extremely dangerous and something they take very seriously.

"Texting and driving is actually 23 times more likely to be involved in a crash than an undistracted driver and 6 times more likely to be in a crash than a drunk driver so it's very important to pay attention when you're driving and not be distracted," Bismarck Police Sgt. Tim Krous said.

The fine for texting and driving is $100 dollars.

Bismarck Police will have extra enforcement to stop texting while driving all month.
