A large new daycare center has received the OK of the Minot City Council.
Council members tonight voted to approve zoning changes needed to allow The Corcoran School to build a child care center near the new Marketplace Foods in northwest Minot.
One neighbor objected to the plan, saying the facility would be right next to his property.
But A.J. Corcoran promised to be a good neighbor and do more than required to be accepted by area homeowners.
(A.J.Corcoran, The Corcoran School) "We're committed to putting in residential lighting so we don't have an impact on the neighbors, higher than required privacy fences - we're very big on security in general so we want to make sure that the children are safe - so we plan to put in high privacy fences, taller than required buffer zones, exceeding the requirements for trees and landscaping and things like that to make sure the neighbors aren't impacted by noise."
The city council voted unanimously to approve the needed zoning for the daycare facility.
Corcoran told council members future plans for the area include office space and retail stores.
Corcoran opened a similar child care facility in Williston about two years ago.
