Again -- North Dakota is ranked number one for having the best election process.
Not for who's ON the ballot but for HOW those ballots are cast...
Ben Smith reports on three years running.
"I think our people probably take it for granted because that is how its always been." says Al Jaeger, North Dakota Secretary of State
A recent study shows that North Dakota is the best state for elections.
"Here ND is on the top and has been for two election cycles in a row."
One reason could be that it is the only state that doesn't require voter registration
"What we have works very well."
"Here in ND, since you don't have to register, all you have to do is show up on election day." says Dawn Rhone, Morton County Auditor
Its very easy for voters to get their voice heard, all you need is a state-issued ID. It's easy for election officials as well, there are no provisional ballets to process, and the online registration is not needed.
From the little bit I know about voter registration, they have a lot more work up front before the election because people registering before election.
One thing that North Dakota Officials do have to worry about, is estimating how many ballots to print out.
"The one thing if you had registration, you would probably have a good idea of how many ballots to order, I had to figure out how many ballots to order. I don't want to run out so you order way more ballots than you need. It's not just total number of ballots, you have to determine how many ballots you need for every single precinct.
Overall, these officials are proud that in this State, it is relatively easy for your voice to be heard.
"Its really a good day. I'm just so pleased and so proud of everyone."
