The Minot High boys golf team is looking to pick up right where it left off last season. 21 players are out for this years team that returns 4 of its top 6 golfers after finishing 4th last year in the state tournament. The Magicians have a new coach in Shane Hannegrefs and thanks in part to a simulator donated by the Minot Junior Golf Association, the Magicians feel they're ready to hit the links and be a state contender this year.
Shane Hannegrefs, MHS Golf Coach:I think this year we have 4, 5 guys that can break 80 on any given day, I think we have you know, I think our top 5 and as we progress fill out our roster our top 6 are going to be able to beat kids that we can all count on the score. Our top 4 I believe from returning players they're in the top 15 returning in our region so I think on any given day they can be a top 5 kid at state, at region, they have high hopes.
Jersey Kelly, Senior:Yeah we're returning 4 of our top 6 that includes, Taryn, Cody, Ty and me myself. We have some younger guys that are coming up an some higher up guys, some juniors, some seniors that are looking to pull through.
Cody Reynolds, Sophomore:I am very excited for this year, I think we'll do really good, I think we'll probably have a real good shot at the state tournament this year.
The Magicians are scheduled to open their season next Monday at Souris Valley Golf Course.
