Extensive Investigation Leads to Charges in Williams County Illegal Dumping Case

Posted: Updated:

An update after it's announced that Wyoming-based Black Hills Trucking faces severe civil penalties...

The company faces Up to two million dollars in fines... for operating without a license...

And one of their drivers faces a class C felony... for dumping out saltwater on a Williams County road...

We learn more about an extensive investigation that led to the charges.

According to a public information officer with the North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources, another oil company in the area- set up surveillance- to make sure their own workers weren't violating disposal laws.

Once video of another company offending the disposal laws was turned in--state workers started their own patrols.

An inspector followed the suspect and also got footage of him illegally dumping the salt water waste.

"The thing here is that we were able to have some evidence that we were able to take this person or will be able to take this person to trial and have that evidence to prosecute them," says North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources Public Information Officer Alison Ritter.

This will be the third oil related class C felony charged through the North Dakota Attorney General's Office.
