After a disappointing end to the season last year where the team just missed qualifying for state, this year's Velva Aggies baseball team is hoping it has the right players in place to get the team back to state. 24 players are out for this year's team including 5 starters. The Aggies also have a deep pitching rotation and are coming off of a big region win this week over Bishop Ryan and currently find themselves on top of the region standings.
Matt Weidler, Aggies Baseball Coach:You know these guys that have played high school and summer we kind of lean on them, they got a lot of at bats a lot of pitches, they've played a lot of baseball so we're kind of leaning on them and we're going to rely on our arms, I feel comfortable 6-7 guys throwing against anybody so we'll lean on that. We got to get a little better in the field, we booted a few too many balls around but that'll come.
Drew Effertz, Senior:Coming into the year I thought we'd be a little inexperienced top to bottom I wasn't sure what kind of production we'd get out of our lineup but our last game against Ryan, the bottom of our lineup really stepped up and I was pretty impressed so it'll be important for the young guys to catch on quick and it'll help us going through the season.
Brad Dean, Senior:We're pretty deep at the pitching spot we got a lot of lefthanders which is pretty fortunate because not a lot of teams can we have three solid lefthanders on our team so.
The Aggies next action will be on Monday when they host Max/Garrison and then Surrey/Our Redeemer's on Tuesday.
