Residents Continue Rice Lake Battle

Posted: Updated:

Just a few short years ago the people of Rice Lake began to have fears of the rising shoreline.

Today, they are doing everything they can to keep their heads and homes above water.

Neighbors are helping one another dike and sand bag endangered properties,

while some are choosing to pick up and move.

One man said his home was 90 feet from lake during 1998, now it's swallowed his deck.

(Bruce Haskins, Home Owner) "It's been an on going battle for quite awhile now. Water's up a foot and a half or so from what it was at last fall, which we thought was the peek, and now my neighbor to the waste who just built a place, I think probably five or six years ago is moving his off. He really doesn't have any choice. He had a nice new home, and a new lower level, and it's filling up with water."

He said no one knows where the water keeps coming from, but it doesn't appear to be stopping anytime soon.
