Zoo Animals Get New Toys

Posted: Updated:

Play time is a priority for the animals at Roosevelt Park Zoo.

And thanks to a two thousand dollar donation from the folks at Hess Corporation, the zoo's cats will have some new toys.

Today Lions, Tigers and bears were given these new toys, thanks to the company's donation.

Weebles that weigh from 45 to 95 pounds and cost several hundred dollars each were enthusiastically accepted by the inhabitants at the zoo.

Senior Keeper Becky Zahn Walcker says that the enrichment devices are such a treat because so many of the park animals can enjoy them.

(Beck Zahn Walcker, Senior Keeper) "We hope to get more of these devices in the future because this is only one. Several could be given to the large hoof stock, even the smaller hoof stock, there's different sizes of these items. So it could be dispersed in other locations if we could have more purchased."

Zahn Walcker hopes that the Hess Weeble's will be enjoyed for the next five years.
