Veterans Get Medals

Posted: Updated:

Four military veterans received medals either lost, stolen, or delayed today in Minot.

The men were honored by North Dakota Senator John Hoeven.

He presented medals posthumously to the families of William Garrison and Clarence Eliason of Minot, and to Ernest Hoelscher of Berthold and Roger Sundsbak of Velva.

The senator read brief recaps of the military service of each man, saying North Dakotans have a strong tradition of dedicated military service.

In one reading, Hoeven quoted the wife of recently-deceased Clarence "Kelly" Eliason.

(Sen. John Hoeven, (R) ND) "Kelly walked with the giants and was one of the rough men who go forth at night and do the dangerous work of our nation so that we can sleep under the blanket of freedom and security. That's amazing...just amazing."

Hoeven praised the service and dedication of all four men, honoring their sacrifices in serving the nation.
