North Dakota Workers Who Lost Lives on the Job Remembered

Union supporters and loved ones of those lost in fatal work accidents gather at the North Dakota AFL-CIO to commemorate Workers Memorial Day.

Attendants placed flowers next to a row of flags in remembrance of the workers who died on the job as their names were read aloud.

Members of the Missouri Slope Labor Council say they hope to bring awareness to the loss of life in in the state due to working conditions and accidents.

"It's important that people know that actually there are people dying on the job or because of their job ," says Kelly Gellner of the Missouri Slope Central Labor Council Board.

A preliminary count from the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports there were 64 fatal work injuries in North Dakota in 2012.
