MSU Introduces New Football Coach

Posted: Updated:
It was deja vu all over again for the Minot State football team. Today the team introduced it's 2nd new head coach in the past 4 months with the introduction of Tyler Hughes who replaces Todd Hoffner who recently returned to Mankato State.

Although he's only 33 years old Hughes brings with him an impressive resume that spans from a division 3 school to the Big 10 including just last year assisting Ohio State's Urban Meyer.

Tyler Hughes, MSU Football Coach:I learned a significant amount from coach Meyer in terms of player development and organizational structure. I mean just being able to sit in on meetings and listen to him talk and communicate and also working with the other coaches that were in that program were fantastic coaches and so I feel a combination of working at a smaller school plus working at a really big school like Ohio State gives me a good balance and blend to go forward here.

Meanwhile the Beavers will have their work cut out for them as they move into their 3rd season in the NSIC but coach Hughes says he's determined to bring a national title to Minot.

Hughes:And I want us to be a national championship contender. Obviously we want to win our conference and we have to do that and we have to play very competitively within our conference to get to a national championship level but that's ultimately where we want to go.
The Beavers will wrap up their spring football drills with their Friday Night Lights scrimmage tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at Herb Parker Stadium.

For more than 80 years, the International Peace Garden has been a blooming symbol of friendship between the US and Canada. Sitting astride the border separating North Dakota from Manitoba, the garden brings together woodlands, ponds, grassland, and amazing gardens to make its point.
