Mandan High School "Locked Down" Following Incident

Posted:

At least one student is arrested following a 911 call to Mandan High School.

Mandan High School goes into lockdown after 911 is called around 1:30 this afternoon.

One 18-year-old student has since been arrested for possession of a concealed weapon...

Criminal charges are pending against him and a 16-year-old student . Officers

found the 18-year-old walking on the south side of the high school... with an unloaded revolver in his pants.

According to Mandan police, it does not appear any direct threats were ever made against any students or staff, but someone called 911 saying a student had a gun.

During the lockdown the Mandan Police Department did apprehend several individuals that were responsible for the threat. Classes resumed shortly after that once we were given the all clear from the Mandan Police Department working closely with the school administration," says Mandan High School Principal Mark Andresen.

Superintendent Dr. Mike Bitz says the incident began about 1:30pm and lasted about an hour.

Bitz says classes resumed this afternoon once the situation was resolved.

We talked with one parent picking up her child after school.

"My daughter was scared so then of course that made me scared too," says a Mandan High School Parent.

We talked with a few high school students who also said they were afraid during the lockdown.

The investigation is ongoing.
