Walking into school on Thursdays at Sunnyside...kids might just find themselves stepping to the beat.
Not from music they might be listening to, rather from the beat echoing from a portable classroom that sits right in front of the school.
Inside, Jeri Langemo is keeping a tradition going.
This group is known as 'Drum Kids'.
Langemo started the group back in 1999 at Lincoln Elementary, a school lost in the Mouse River Flood.
The beat goes on still today however at Sunnyside where third through fifth graders have a chance to learn how to play percussion.
(Jeri Langemo - Drum Kids Instructor) "Get them loving music but helping them become independent musicians. They have their parts to memorize...we aren't just playing unison but listening to each other and getting a steady beat so we can put the parts together and have a little harmony."
'Drum Kids' meets Thursday mornings before school at Sunnyside.
