ND Celebrates School Nurse Day

Posted: Updated:

It's National Nurses Week.

Governor Dalrymple has declared today as School Nurse Day in North Dakota - a time to appreciate their role they have in child development.

Dara Lein has been a school nurse at Sunrise Elementary in Bismarck for the past year.

Lein says being a school nurse is different than working in a hospital because she's one on one with each student and has to make decisions on her own.

She says it's no longer just band aids and bruises, but she cares for students with diabetes, seizure disorders and also promotes health education.

The reason she chose to be a school nurse was an easy one.

"Kids. I absolutely love kids. I have four kids of my own so I always have kind of enjoyed the company of the children," says Dara Lein, School Nurse, Sunrise Elementary.

Lein also says tire swings can be the root of all evil.

She says most kids get bruises, feel sick, dizzy, and light-headed as a result of playing on the swing.
