Bismarck, ND -
The Bismarck High baseball team beat arch rival Century yesterday in the all important WDA conference game.
That bumped the Demons to 6 and 3, in the West.
Mandan is now first in the West, Century is 2nd, BHS is 3rd.
Head Coach Jim Patton says still having a chance at that number one seed is what matters.
He says his team hasn't had a single outing this year where they haven't played hard, their effort has been good, they just now need their approach to be as good.
(Jim Patton-BHS Head Coach) we're in a favorable position due to the way that we're playing right now, not due to who we play record not withstanding we're looking to be playing our best baseball at the end of the year so from that standpoint we're fortunate we have 10 more outings to sharpen ourselves
(Nate Dinga-BHS Pitcher) come to practice ready to practice and work hard not take any days off because I'm sure all last year stays in our mind of losing in the first round at state and we want to prevent that "
With 5 conference match ups yet to play, in the next week, the regular season is far from over.
All five of those game come against team that trail them in the standings.
But Coach Patton knows the its not who you play, but who you have pitching that will often determine a West Region win.
(Jim Patton-BHS Head Coach) don't change a lot we stay sharp during practice, and try to execute the game plan like we've been doing all year long, the good part about a short season, is ever though there's only two weeks we still have half out schedule, and so does everybody else'
(Jared Spooner-BHS Catcher) still want to play the same way whether you're playing the last team in the standings or the first team you need to play with purpose and you need to play with pride"
Bismarck High takes on Minot this Friday at home.
Game time is 4:30 at Haaland Field, Minot is 6 and 4, and ranked 5th in the West.
