Shiloh Christian Continues to Grow

Posted: Updated:

Shiloh Christian school is seeing more changes to its building.

Ben Smith brings us to a school where students took a break from class today, to celebrate a special occasion,

Students take a break outside to celebrate the expansion of their school.

"It's awesome because it's really a big step for the school. I really think that this commons area will be really nice." says James Inman, Senior at Shiloh high school."

Shiloh's Vision 2015 Campaign is in its second phase--today's ground breaking celebrates the construction of a new addition to the school.

"So this commons area is really the first step where we will add additional space, free up some other areas of the school.  And then of course it will serve the gathering point for the performing arts venue which we hope to build very very soon." says Morgan Forness, Shiloh Superintendent

Forness says this will make the school feel more secure.

"Well I think safety is probably the number one benefit in that we will have a single access point to the entire 22 acre campus." says Forness
And it will also unify the school.

"But it also brings the two schools together, the elementary schools on the north end, the high school/middle school on the south end." says Forness

Which will make going to and from class a lot more comfortable.

"There's a lot of traveling back and forth from the high school building and in the winter you really don't want to walk outside so this will really help that and it will make it a lot easier." says Inman

The school raised $2.1 million dollars to fund this phase of the project--and it's students played a big part.

"We decided lets just raise some money, lets do what we can.  Obviously we knew we weren't going to raise everything but we figured every little bit counts and so everyone started bringing in money and then we raised about 8,000 dollars."

James is going to graduate knowing that his school is a better place than when he started.

"I mean the last three years I've really seen the school grow a lot and so to see it finally come to end, all the construction and everything and now that the last project is going to start, it's really exciting for the school."

A school that because of its students, is growing together.

Construction of the new common area is expected to be completed in November--this will mark the end of Phase 2.

Phase 3 of the campaign includes construction of a Preschool Wing and a Performing Arts Center.
