Mandan Middle School Students Prepare for Band Night Parade

Posted: Updated:

The band students have been practicing for months before they marched through the state capital.

Corina Cappabianca has more on one band's final rehearsal before the big parade.

Mandan Middle School Band students-- are ready to rock and roll for Friday night's parade.

Sarah Emineth has marched in the parade before. She says the experience is like none other.

"It's so much fun because you're with a bunch of people that you love. Like our band is so amazing. Like we have so many good kids in band and it's just a great time," says student Sara Emineth.

Band teacher Sara Baumann leads the largest single school band in the parade.

"There's a lot of challenge there for them to simultaneously be able to move their feet, play their instrument really strong and well and keep their line straight left to right and front to back there's a lot of challenge to it but they really enjoy getting outside," says Band Teacher Sara Baumann.

But, these kids know how to have fun with it.

"Practicing is really fun cuz it's like you get to come outside you get to miss a couple periods of class and you get to come outside and enjoy the fresh air," says student Sara Emineth.

The kids had about six days to learn the march-- and for some-- it takes a lot of concentration.

"Gotta be like left right left right left right and then just think about all the percussion jus thjust about and then you kind of look over sometimes and make sure you're in line and stuff," says student Sara Emineth.

And if you think that's hard-- try being a five foot two tuba player...

"Tell me about the plan and how you're gonna haul that baby around tonight," says reporter Mike Chaussee.

"Put it on my shoulder and have my shoulder hurt all night. It's killin me right now," says Kordell Myers.

And the anticipation is killing them too.

"They love playing. They love doing what they're doing and they're very excited for tonight because tonight's audience is just going to be wonderful. It's a perfect day for the parade," says Baumann.
