Encouraging Exercise

Posted: Updated:

Exercise is medicine...

Get up and get moving...

Remember those things, and you are on the way to good health..

That was part of the message delivered Friday to kids at Longfellow school in Minot from Dr. Dawn Mattern.

Dr. Mattern was encouraging the kids to get sixty minutes of exercise a day -- from time at recess, to walking the dog -- anything can help lead to good health.

She says while childhood obesity gets lots of headlines...it isn't her main concern.

She want kids moving, playing, and having fun...

That can fix many health issues.

(Dr. Dawn Mattern - Trinity Health) "I don't believe in childhood obesity, I don't think that is our issue. I think our issue is childhood inactivity. If we look at our kids, they spend somewhere in the average of seven to almost eight hours a day connected to a TV or a computer or video game and that is distressing. I think it is more the inactivity issue than the true obesity issue."

There are walks held fairly regularly at oak park and they're a great way to enjoy those occasional nice days.
