Hepatitis Outbreak Now at 45

Posted: Updated:

The nation's largest-ever unsolved outbreak of Hepatitis-C has grown larger.

State epidemiologist Tracy Miller says a 45th case has been confirmed in the outbreak that was first reported last year.

All of the 45 victims were current or former residents of ManorCare in Minot.

The state has been assisted by the US Centers for Disease Control in its investigation of the outbreak that is unique in that it has impacted mostly elderly patients.

Hepatitis-C is transmitted through blood contact and can cause serious liver damage or even death.
