Construction On Track for Legacy and Liberty Schools

Posted: Updated:

Construction is coming along for both Legacy High School and Liberty Elementary School.

Workers started setting the wall panels for Legacy today.

Darin Scherr, Director of Facilities and Transportation says they have 61 working days of wall panels and additional roofing, then the building will be fully enclosed.

He says winter construction was a bit difficult this year due to the frost but he says they're still on track for the building to be complete in August of 2015.

It's a three story facility that once complete, Scherr says will be what he considers Bismarck's biggest high school site.

"It's 60 plus acres and we really don't have that. Century's our next biggest that's 20 acres and there's just not a lot of space for adequate parking for outdoor fields, and now we're going to have that at Legacy," says Darin Scherr, Director of Facilities & Transportation.

Progress on Liberty is moving along and will welcome its students this August for the start of the 2014-2015 school year.

Scherr says they're still waiting on the streets and parking lots which will be constructed this summer.

One piece of technology this school will have is a walltalker in each room

Walltalkers are floor to ceiling, dry erase wall coverings.

Scherr says Liberty will be a sister school to Lincoln Elementary.

"The only difference is a lot of times we'll maybe make slight adjustments for sites. And the site here is a little bit different than Lincoln so the building is mirrored. It's pretty much the same but it's just mirrored so the front door is on the like the southeast for example instead of the southwest," says Scherr.

Scherr says both Legacy and Liberty will have the capabilities to add onto the schools if needed as Bismarck's population grows.
