Senior Salute

Posted: Updated:

Over 300 seniors made their way to Minot's Riverside Holiday Inn for a celebration.

This is the 18th year the city's senior coalition has hosted the Salute to Seniors, and this year's theme was the Grand Ole Opry.

Those who have reached the distinction of age 65 had the chance to eat, dance and shop around at the event.

But there is an even more important reason for the salute, showing them appreciation.

(Kayla Lawson, President Minot Senior Coalition) "They're a part of our community. They need some events to come to too. There's not so many for them anymore. They are the reason we are here. If it wasn't for them we wouldn't be born in the world."

Coalition officials plan on continuing the event next year, and are brainstorming already for 2015's theme.
