NEW YORK, May 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- MSA Security (MSA), the industry leader and standard setter for private industry explosive detection canine services, is pleased to announce today our acquisition of Pacific Shield Protective Services, a veteran owned small business out of Monrovia, CA specializing in explosive detection canines. The purchase will allow MSA to expand our footprint on the West Coast and better serve the needs of our existing clients in the region.

Pacific Shield Protective Services has operations throughout the West Coast Region including Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Las Vegas, and currently services clients in the sports and entertainment, defense, and financial sectors.

"We were looking for a company with the same standards of excellence and reputation in the bomb dog industry, and Pacific Shield was well positioned to complement the existing MSA program," said Michael O'Neil, MSA President. "Our regional Explosive Detection Canine Centers of Excellence span the nation in New York, Connecticut, Boston, Chicago, Washington, DC, and now Southern CA."

Since its inception in 1987, MSA has been providing explosive detection teams to government and private entities. Today, MSA runs the largest, privately owned explosive detection canine program in the nation with over 200 full-time single handler, single purpose explosive detection canine teams on staff. Pacific Shield will integrate seamlessly into MSA's West Coast operations.

"I have a great deal of respect for MSA Security and look forward to the merging of our companies and providing new and existing clients with the outstanding service and resource management both organizations are known for," said William Hooker, Pacific Shield Chief Executive Officer and Chief Canine Trainer.
