More than 550 students received degrees at Minot State University's centennial commencement ceremony today.
The dome was full of milestone achievements, and Jennifer Kleen introduces us to a family with one more milestone for the list.
Generations of education.
Minot State University's centennial celebration came to a close today at the commencement ceremony for the 100th graduating class.
(Lindsey Nelson, Minot State University Class of 2014) "I'm amazed that four years have gone so fast and that it's actually here."
Former Student Government president and now MSU alumna Lindsey Nelson delivered a commencement address to her peers.
(Lindsey Nelson, Minot State University Class of 2014) "It's focusing a little bit on our past and celebrating our centennial and also focuses on our next 100 years."
As friends and family crowded the dome to honor the accomplishments of today, Nelson's family also reflected on the centennial, and the more than half century that Minot State has played a role in their family.
(Lindsey Nelson, Minot State University Class of 2014) "My mom was a Minot State grad in 1987 and my grandpa was a Minot State grad in 1960 so I'm proud to say I'm a third generation Minot State student."
Three generations have generated a lot of change at Minot State.
(Doug Hoglund, Minot State University Class of 1960) "We were a Teachers College and most of the graduates became teachers. Another thing, we only had one main building."
(Tami Nelson, Minot State University Class of 1987) "When I was here, they were going through the name change. When I came it was Minot State College and I remember writing SUND-Minot. My daughter tells me that that fall after I graduated it became Minot State University."
Lindsey Nelson says being a third generation graduate did play a role in her decision to attend Minot State, but she says the campus has much more to offer than history.
(Doug Hoglund, Minot State University Class of 1960) "We're just glad to be a part of it."
(Tami Nelson, Minot State University Class of 1987) "It's so close to home that it feels like home."
(Lindsey Nelson, Minot State University Class of 2014) "It's been wonderful to be so close to home and to know that I have a parent and a grandparent that were both here before me."
Generations of excellence at Minot State University, all looking ahead to the next 100 years.
