Marine Recruits Get a Taste of Life in the Military

Posted: Updated:

Future Marines are meeting with seasoned veterans to get a taste of what life will be like in the military.
Future Marines and their families are at Sertoma Park to learn the ropes of the Marine Corps.
This group of recruits known as 'Poolies' met with seasoned veterans to better prepare themselves for boot camp.
They went through physical tests of strength before enjoying lunch cooked by these experienced Marines.
It gave them a chance to really learn about what it takes to be a member of the United States marine Corps.
"This gives the Poolies the opportunity to connect with us as marines.  Again with our detachment with the Marine Coure League we are comprised of folks from World War II all the way through to Afghanistan.  So there is different aspects of the Marine Corp but what they also find out is that regardless of the generation of Marine that you are, you are still a Marine, and that's whats important."says Ray Morrell with the Dakota Leathernecks
This event was part of the Delayed Entry Program.
It gives recruits a chance to research and think about joining the military before being locked in for training.
