After a stellar team showing at the West Region golf tournament the Minot High Magicians are heading to the Class A State golf tournament in Jamestown.
Under the senior leadership of Jersey Kelly and Taran Albright the Magicians won the west and now hope that carries into the two day state tournament tomorrow.
Minot has shown serious improvement not just from last season but throughout the year.
Winning four of their 10 meets--compared to zero in 2013.
First year head coach Shane Hannegrefs says if they're going to take the state title they'll need at least the top four golfers to be on their game both days.
Shane Hannegrefs/ head Coach "I think we got a little bit lucky at the regional tournament. We had two very good scorers two, sort of average scorers. our good scorers were good enough to pull us through that day. Our seniors came up big for us at the West Region [meet] Taran and Jersey. We're going to need four scorers at this tournament. The competition is going to be the toughest competition of the year and every team seems to be playing better than they did earlier."
Jersey Kelly/ Senior " I have a good feeling about our guys. I know that we have to put up good numbers. I know it will take four low, low, low numbers but if we're in the low 300's that will get it done. I mean, 1 through four is going to be a pretty big battle. We have to stay in those lower numbers around the mid 70s."
Taran Albright/ Senior "I think we need to just focus on our own game to get the job done. We feel confident because we won the regional title so that gives us a big boost. We just have to focus on the little things.. Hit the ball straight, try not to do anything extra that you don't have too, just play simple."
Day one of the state Class A tournament starts tomorrow in Jamestown. The First Tee time is scheduled for 9 AM.
