Former Marauder Training for Second Season in Germany

Posted: Updated:
Going pro is most College Athlete's goal.
For former Marauder's Basketball Player-- Damon Smith-- he's playing with the pros-- but not here in the U.S.
Jalen Jaspers has more on Smith's journey in Germany.

Damon Smith has returned to Bismarck-- a town he called home for two years, to work on his game and get ready for the next season.
His non-stop work ethic is something he picked up right here in his days with the Marauder's basketball team.
(Damon Smith/Titans Forward) "With Mary not being a big D1 school or like a huge D2 school, you have to really work hard and be self motivated to get your success."
Smith recently re-signed his contract with the Dresden Titans of the German B Professional League--
It will be his second straight season playing for the Titans-- where he averaged more than 13 points per game.
This may have been a surprise to some, but not Marauders Men's Basketball coach Jevin Budde.
(Jevin Budde/Marauders Men's Basketball Coach) "You know what, it wasn't. After being in contact with his agent and seeing how happy their coaching staff was with him, and he's an easy guy to be happy with. Not necessarily just because he can do in between the lines, but the presence that he brings off the court with his personality. He's a great teammate."
Smith thinks he'll be even more productive as he returns to a familiar system
(Damon Smith/Titans Forward) "He knows what he wants, I know our plays, we know what to expect out of him and what to expect out of the team. So, I think that's going to be like the biggest deal going back."
Coach Budde attributes Smith's successful professional career to his character.
(Jevin Budde/Marauders Men's Basketball Coach) "It's just the type of young man that he is, he's responsible , does what needs to get done, takes care of himself from that end."
There is still more dream chasing to be done for Smith, and he feels he is just getting that much closer to accomplishing his aspirations.
(Damon Smith/Titans Forward) "Playing over there just gets me closer to my overall goal of getting back this way."
Smith will continue to try and climb the professional basketball-- hoping one day to land back in the states.

Smith says the thing he's had to adjust to most in Germany is the food.
He says they eat mushrooms with everything, and he's just not a mushroom kind of guy.
