Relay For Life "Team Sheri"

Posted: Updated:

Close to 1,000 people came out for the Relay for Life fundraiser yesterday and many of them continued late into last night.

People were at Century High School for the event until 5a.m.

As the sun went down relay teams continued to walk around the track in support of those who have ever had to battle cancer.

One of the biggest groups there was Team Sheri.

Sheri Obritsch was diagnosed with cancer in 2010.

She attended the event with over 50 members of her extended family who she says have been a phenomenal support system throughout the years.

Her mother, Geneva Steier has 14 children and over 20 grandchildren.

She hopes that through events like this one, there will eventually be a cure for cancer.

"We have a big family and we support her very much and we do whatever we can and they are all walking tonight for awareness because they say that cancer has no time--no daylight, no night, it's there," Geneva Steir said.

Sheri's nephew raised $1,000 for the event all by himself.

The 2014 Relay For Life raised over $350,000.
