Authorities Searching for Suspect in Attempted Abduction

Posted: Updated:

A statewide alert has been issued after an attempted abduction in Ward County today.

Berthold Police Chief Al Schmidt says a young boy - age 8 or 9 - was walking with some friends in central Berthold about 3:45 when a man pulled up in a pickup truck.

The man was heard telling the boy to get into his truck.

Three other kids who heard the man ran away and called police.

The boy was not abducted and is safe.

But police agencies in the area are searching for a man in his 30s, driving a blue-green pickup truck with a topper.

(Al Schmidt, Berthold Police Chief) "We get the information of all agencies in North Dakota and put out an APB on the description of the driver and vehicle and hopefully somebody locates him. I also have people putting it out on Facebook and other networks like that and hopefully somebody will be able to see him."

If you see a blue-green pickup with a topper, or if you know anything about the incident in Berthold, contact your local law enforcement agency.
