Community Chairman Prepares for President's Visit

Posted: Updated:

We're just three days away from the President of the United States making a visit to North Dakota.

It's certainly a big deal for the entire state, but especially for those on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation.

Fort Yates Community Chairman Cedric Good House is in charge of the sound system this weekend at the Cannon Ball powwow grounds.

He says a lot is going into preparing for the President, including security... and his job... sound.

"We are screening everybody possible, myself as well and everybody that's going to be coming in. Dancers have been selected. They've been screened and we're going to be doing a grand entry. Do the flag song, victory song," says Cedric Good House, Community Chairman, Ft. Yates.

Good House says it's a great honor that President Obama is choosing to visit their home.

He says he enjoys being a part of this and a part of history.

"Those that are going to be able to have contact with him, be able to say something to him I think are given an opportunity that we can build on," says Good House.

House was the only official in Fort Yates willing and able to talk with us today. Other officials say they're in meetings and they're still preparing and finalizing details for Friday. They'll be able to release this information to us in the next couple days.

Tickets are required to attend the Cannon Ball event while the President is there - and tickets will be given to tribal members.

Once he leaves, the venue will be re-opened to everyone for the rest of the celebration.
