Cannonball Community Prepares for Flag Ceremony

Posted: Updated:

The Cannonball community plans to host a flag ceremony Friday and Saturday to honor the fallen.

Flags will be raised around 8am in the morning and will be taken down each night around 5pm at the pow wow grounds.

The ceremony will include Taps, a rifle salute and dancers to honor tribal members who lost their lives fighting for our country.

Over 80 flags will be flown for the ceremony including a flag that was flown at Ground Zero after the September 11th attacks.

We spoke to a veteran from Cannonball who says while many members are looking forward to the President's visit he's also looking forward to honoring veterans.

"To me the flag ceremony is the greatest thing that our people celebrate because of the flag that our veterans went and protected," says Antoine American Horse.

There will also be a celebration Friday night where veterans will present their colors.
