MSU Summer Theater Begins 49th Year

Posted: Updated:

The curtain goes up on the 49th season of MSU Summer Theatre this evening.

'The Musical of Musicals' will be performed.

Perry Olson gives us a taste of the show -- and Summer Theatre in general tonight.

(Amanda Kraft - Actor) "It is always fun coming to Summer Theatre and being in plays and getting involved."

And that season is now started -- the first of four shows here at the amphitheatre is off and running Friday. 'The Musical of Musicals' may not be one you've heard of...but you aren't alone! Many of the talented performers working on it -- hadn't heard of the comical production before auditioning!

(J'Kobe Wallace - Actor) "I was a little skeptical at first but the moment I heard the music...I was in for it!" (Brett Olson - Actor) "It is really funny. I am familiar with many of the musicals that it is poking fun at so it has been fun learning the little jokes knowing, oh yeah, this is from that song and this is from that show."

This is the first show of the season in this unique venue -- it's year 49 -- and Carlen Gilseth's first time directing here...

(Carlen Gilseth - Director) "It is one of very few in the state that are out doors...Medora you have...I love it out here and the sound is really good. This week we started with microphones but prior to that they were doing a fantastic job and I was wondering if they really even needed microphones!"

They'll have the mics on...and be ready to entertain...

(Brett Olson - Actor) "The house at the amphitheatre here is so severely raked that is kind of like you are looking at a wall of people!"

And they hope you'll be a part of that wall this season. In Minot, Perry Olson, KX News.

8:30 is showtime tonight and every night at Summer Theatre.

Three more productions are coming this year -- running through mid-July.
