"Go Skate Day" at Hillside

Posted: Updated:

A group of skaters are going all out at Hillside skate park for International "Go Skate Day."

Over 50 people came to the skating complex at Lions park to celebrate.. something they've now been doing for years.

There were riders of all different skill levels and ages.

Local business "Saavvy Skate and Snow Shop" also sponsored a skate competition at the park today.

The winner gets a new pair of skate shoes.

Over 20 people took part in the contest--and win or lose, they all just enjoy being together doing what they love.

"The feeling of accomplishment when you land a trick, that is really awesome. Other sports they are like team sports you have to rely on other people to succeed or win, this is all on you. It's not really a sport more of an art form," Dylan Kahl said.

"There is no coach for it I mean these kids are motivating themselves. They're learning tricks on their own, they sit in their garages all winter long, trying to teach themselves. It's a good time, it's really fun, it's something for the kids to do and it's a great day to be out here," Rob Savageau said.

Hillside was the first skate park built in North Dakota in 1996.
