Residents Clean Up Mandan

Posted: Updated:

A Mandan woman is inspired to clean up her city's streets.

Amy Schmidt leads a group of volunteers today to clean up four different sections of road throughout Mandan.

Working with Mandan Beautification Committee she used Facebook to ask residents what they thought were the dirtiest roads in their town.

She said she was inspired by similar clean up efforts in the oil patch.

Schmidt has lived in the Bismarck/Mandan area for the last 15 years and says the trash problem keeps getting worse.

"The litter has drastically increased in the last couple of years and I believe it's do to the boom. We have so much construction in our area and this is just one of those negative results that comes along with the growth," Amy Schmidt of Mandan said.

In just the first 1 mile stretch of road they cleaned up, they collected over 10 large bags full of trash.

They plan to do another cleanup day in Bismarck and Mandan in the fall.
