It had been three years since the North Dakota team was able to keep the Badlands Bowl Trophy in their home state.
Not to mention Montana has won 15 of the 20 battles between the two.
And the story of last night was kicker Ben Love.
Love who was the kicker for Minot High only kicked 6 field goals all season last fall.
Last night he equaled that number, nailing a 24 yarder to send the game into overtime.
Then in OT Love was able to come to the rescue again, connecting and putting ND up 3.
Then North Dakota D able to shut down the Montana offense, missing their chance to tie it up.
Defensive MVP Thomas Sease, says the team was fired up after talk of them being the underdogs.
"I mean it feels great especially coming in all week knowing and hearing all week that they would be surprised if we score that their quarterback's not going to get touched I mean it really helped us come in with a chip on our shoulder and I mean it really feels great to come out with a win. In the end I mean I didn't really get the defensive MVP it was a team effort I couldn't have done anything without my 10 guys behind me. "
