Dickinson Couple Receives "Life Saving" Award

Posted: Updated:

Four people are being awarded for helping a family whose canoe tipped over in Patterson Lake in April.

Today the Stark County Sheriff's Department is giving Rhett and Natalie Hall the Life Saving Award for helping the Heib family when their canoe capsized.

They saw Jeffrey Heib and his two kids ages 3 and 8 in the water and went over to help.

The Hall's were able to get the kids in the boat and hold onto Jeffrey outside of it as officers swam out to help.

The couple was able to save the kids but their dad, Jeffrey was pronounced dead at St. Josephs Hospital.

Officers Dan Kensinger and Lauren Asheim are also recognized today.

They are receiving the Bravery Award for their help in saving the kids.
