Sentencing in Sex Abuse Case

Posted: Updated:

A 37-year prison sentence was delivered this morning after 43-year-old Chad Kleespie pleaded guilty to a Class Double-A felony for continuous sexual abuse of a child.

Judge Douglas Mattson sentenced Kleespie to 37 years in prison with the last 10 years eligible for probation --- seven years greater than the plea recommendation of 30 years.

The Minot man pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a girl when she was between the ages of nine and 14 years old.

If and when he gets out of prison, Kleespie will be on lifetime supervised probation, and a lifetime registered sex offender --- and during his prison sentence he will be required to attended the most intensive sex offender treatment available.

Judge Mattson ordered restitution of just under 14-hundred dollars and Kleespie will not be allowed any form of contact with the victim -- indefinitely.

In the pre-sentence investigation, Kleespie and his attorney argued that much of his criminal history was due to alcoholism and that Kleespie does not remember the alleged five years of sexual abuse.
