Zimbelman Steps Down, Barney New Mayor

Posted: Updated:

A new mayor and three new city council members took their seats tonight.

Minot's City Council held its re-organizational meeting, first thanking and honoring outgoing council members, and giving two standing ovations to longtime mayor Curt Zimbelman.

Zimbelman has been mayor for 12 years and was on the city council for 24 years before that.

He thanked the city staff, council members, citizens, and his family for supporting him in his years of public service.

Then, the new council members and new mayor Chuck Barney took their seats and began their terms.

The first order of business was to elect Mark Jantzer as council president and Jim Hatlelid as vice-president.

Following the brief meeting, a surprise party was held for Zimbelman at Minot's Grand Hotel.

Among the gifts he received was a drawing by a well known Norwegian artist in recognition of his support for the Norsk Hostfest over the years.
