Jesse Ili Sentenced to One Year

Posted: Updated:
A former Minot State University football player found guilty in May of assaulting a Minot Police officer was sentenced to one year in the Ward County jail this morning.

Jesse Ili was facing the possibility of ten years in state prison for the crimes committed in August of 2013, but Judge Patrick Weir handed down a much smaller sentence than prosecutors had been hoping for.

Ili had been found guilty of preventing arrest and assault on a peace officer along with a drug related charge.

If Ili completes his two and a half years of probation without incident, Judge Weir says his felony charges will be changed to misdemeanors on his record.

He will receive credit for 85 days already served and has 280 days left in his sentence.
