You may notice a lot of dirt being moved around in North Bismarck.
New big-box stores are said to make their debut in that area in the near future.
This land will soon be home to Hay Creek Shops, 250 thousand square feet of retail and big-box stores.
Planning Manager Kim Lee says the city issued permits for Gordman's, Dick's Sporting Goods, Bed Bath & Beyond, Michaels, and Ulta Cosmetics.
She says there has not been any activity going on at the site since April 17, but says as far as she knows, Hay Creek Shops are still a go.
Along with the rapid growth of new stores...hotels are popping up in the same area.
The new Holiday Inn will be ready to take reservations in the first quarter of 2015.
Construction was at a standstill for awhile but project director Gene Schleusner says the geography of the site required a lot of additional attention and engineering.
He says now, everything is back on track.
The new Holiday Inn will be the first full-service hotel in Bismarck in several years.
Schleusner says it will feature four stories, 111 rooms, and a restaurant.
A brand new road will help the traffic flow to and from Washington Street to Highway 83.
After taking two years to construct, 57th Avenue is now open.
Burleigh County Engineer Marcus Hall says this road is the first step in a series of roadway projects that will better connect the community.
He says the development is a huge driving factor for new roads.
"We have turn lanes that we're going to be installing on 83 and once those turn lanes are installed, once Washington Street is opened up, once some of this development starts finishing up, it'll be heavily used," says Marcus Hall, Burleigh County Engineer.
Hall says they'll be continuing on to the West of Washington Street and constructing another half a mile of 57th Avenue.
He says that part will also be complete this year.
