Architect Visits New Golf Course

Posted: Updated:

He's known world-wide as one of the top golf course designers in the industry...

And his latest masterpiece is taking shape just south of Minot right now.

North Dakota native Jim Engh was in Minot this week having a look at the under-construction Minot Country Club.

Perry Olson rode along with him and talked about the process of building a course.

(Jim Engh - Course Designer) "It is really exciting! It just can't quite go fast enough..."

Jim Engh gets excited touring the under-construction Minot Country Club...and he should! This lay-out is turning heads already, not just locally...but globally in the world of golf.

(Jim Engh - Course Designer) "You have guys who are prominent in the golf architecture world saying they haven't seen anything like this and I am thinking that is pretty exciting!"

Engh is no stranger to designing award winning products...Hawktree in Bismarck, Sanctuary in Colorado...he has the magic touch when it comes to design.

(Jim Engh - Course Designer) "I tend to be able to see land and envision things I guess. In seeing this land it was really spectacular. It took some unique thinking to make it work as a golf course, but what we have here is unique and it is really going to be fun." (Perry Olson) "The goal is to have this course done and playing about one year from now...and Engh's goal with any course he designs is pretty simple." (Jim Engh - Course Designer) "Playable and fun are the only two rules that I have! After that it is the art of creativity. As I like to say it is the laughter in your soul that will come out because you will be giggling I hope."

Course construction takes time -- but even though it may look like there is lots of work to do...the end is actually in sight now...

(Jim Engh - Course Designer) "I would put us at 70 percent...starting to smell the finish line and you are starting to see things take shape daily."

And when Engh says he can see'd better believe him. He can envision anything on one of his golf courses...

(Jim Engh - Course Designer) "Most of the flagging area will be in here...."

Soon golfers in the region will get the chance to enjoy his newest masterpiece. In Minot, Perry Olson, KX News.

Tours of the private country club course are available now.
