Workers Fight to Keep Tournament Going

Posted: Updated:
City workers are fighting the elements to keep the McQuade Softball tournament going.

Members of Bismarck Parks and Recreation department kept busy drying out baseball diamonds across the city.

Some of the diamonds were so wet, hand pumps were used to remove the excess water.

Workers then used large amounts of a bio-gradable spread from corn cobs used to absorb water on baseball and softball fields.

"So far, this is just the McQuade complex where we are at today, we have gone through about 3 and a half pallets which is 48 bags to a pallet, each bag is 50 pounds.  It has been canceled completely one year but there's been other times where there has been rain and we have got the fields ready for them and everything else so they have at least got some games in, I know they got a few rounds in at some complexes this morning." says Dennis Nybo, Facilities Manager Parks and Recreation

Nybo has helped out with 5 different tournaments over the years--he says this isn't the first time he has had to battle the rain.
